  • Faculty serve as speakers, moderators and judges

    Faculty of the School of Journalism & Electronic Media have been involved in a number of academic and professional events this spring:

    • Assistant Professor Erin Whiteside addressed media coverage of Title IX at "Tilting the playing field: Women in sports media," sponsored by the International Communication Association and the George Washington University School of Media & Public Affairs.
    • Assistant Professor Amber Roessner moderated a panel on "Remembering Ida B. Wells-Barnett" at the 2014 AJHA/AEJMC Joint Journalism & Communication History Conference in New York.
    • Professor Mark Harmon presented “The ‘Luntzification’ of the Health Care Debate” at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s spring 2014 Mic/Night, a Pecha Kucha-powered forum designed to enhance the intellectual, interdisciplinary, and cultural life of the faculty and staff at UT.
    • Assistant Professor Elizabeth Hendrickson judged the National Magazine Awards sponsored by the American Society of Magazine Editors in New York City.

  • Erin Whiteside receives Creative Teaching Grant for "Issues in Sports Media" curriculum

    Assistant Professor Erin Whiteside is the recipient of a 2013-2014 Creative Teaching Grant from the University of Tennessee Teaching and Learning Center. Her proposal related to a new special topics class to be offered this fall in the JEM curriculum entitled "Issues in Sports Media." The course is cross-listed as a 400/500 class and is open to both undergraduate and master's students.
