JEM instructor Bonnie Hufford has been named as a finalist for the Knoxville YWCA’s 2013 Tribute to Women event. She will be recognized for her outstanding public service in journalism and through the American Cancer Society at an awards ceremony on Aug. 15 at Knoxville’s Bijou Theatre.

Six of the 21 Tribute to Women finalists will be named as award winners at the ceremony alongside YWCA Lifetime Achievement inductee Joan Cronan.

“I’ve told our dean and our director that this must be my 15 minutes of fame year but I think I'm getting 30 minutes and it’s all in one chunk,” Hufford said.

On July 13, Hufford was the honoree of the 35th annual Front Page Follies, an event hosted by the East Tennessee Society of Professional Journalists. She returned home that evening to learn that she had been awarded the St. George National Award by the ACS for her service to the community in support of the Society's mission.
