The Tennessee Newspaper Hall of Fame housed in the Communications Building was updated this summer for the first time since its establishment in the 1960s. The new display offers an up-to-date digital display of the TPA's Hall of Fame Inductees. Greg Sherrill, Executive Director of the Tennessee Press Association, had this to say about the renovation.
Two years ago, Jones Media President and CEO Gregg Jones had a vision for reinventing the Hall with a dynamic, interactive gallery. The museum-quality, interactive display that you see now allows users to connect these historically significant individuals with their many accomplishments and additions to the Tennessee newspaper industry. It also allows this information to be available worldwide via an Internet portal. In addition to portraits and photographs, we now have the ability to add video and audio to the experience to supplement the information on each of the 55 inductees.
A collaborative effort over the past two years allowed this complete renovation of the Hall. Contributions by the University of Tennessee, Associated Press, Tennessee Press Association Foundation and a host of financial supporters connected to the newspaper industry made it possible. The new gallery was unveiled on July 17 at a reception held in conjunction with the Tennessee Press Association Summer Convention in Knoxville.
