Jason is a first-year doctoral student in the College of Journalism & Electronic Media. A professional journalist for the past 10 years, Jason was the publisher of HokieHaven.com from 2012-2016, a part of the Rivals.com and Yahoo! networks and provided day to day coverage of Virginia Tech athletics and recruiting. He served in a similar capacity, as publisher of TheVTZone.com, a part of the Scout.com network from 2016-17. Jason was also previously sports editor of The Oldham Era, a weekly newspaper in LaGrange, Ky. and editor of The Sporting Times, a monthly magazine in Bowling Green, Ky. covering prep sports.
Jason's professional experience covers print, radio and television, as well as online. He facillitated a media partnership and had on-air experience with WSLS-NBC in Roanoke, Va. and was a regular guest on various local and national sports radio broadcasts. Jason continues his work as a journalist today, as editor of BearcatReport.com on the Rivals.com network and as a freelance writer for TechSideline.com. He returned to academia to teach and mentor future journalists and to bolster the field of journalism through his research. Jason's research interests pertain to social media and how journalism continues to change as a result.
